Faster Product Listing & Filtering with Smart Filtering and Product Caching
Isotope is known for its flexibility. It has never been a "one size fits all" approach, but the tradeoff is that you have more to deal with behind the scenes to accommodate as many possible uses as you can without limiting the system. Inevitably, the price to be paid is usually in performance. If the system has more to manage and think about, then it needs more time to do it. Well, in the case of product listing and filtering, we simply couldn't allow a heavier engine slow down the vehicle. As a result, two new features have been added - product caching and "Smart Filtering".

Isotope E-commerce Gets Stripe Payments
Stripe payments is venturing into uncharted and very exciting territory with their new payment service. As developers, we can't praise Stripe enough for their simple, well-built and reasonably-priced service. Simply put, they've done payments exactly right. Because we love their product, we're going to add it to an already broad list of payment options available to Isotopeans.

Why Isotope Rocks
Wow. I just sat down this morning with what I thought was a day-long task. I have a client who has a list of classes that they sell registrations for over their website using Isotope. They also need to display all those classes on a calendar in a couple different ways along with a matrix of categories as well. Little did I know that doing something like that with Isotope was actually pretty darn easy.

Beyond eCommerce
With the release of 0.1.0 stable, it's an exciting time for the Isotope project. There are more and more Isotope shops out in the wild, and many more planned in the near future, plus we have a growing number of dedicated testers out there who are providing some great feedback. And while we continue to release a number of maintenance and feature updates, it's also important to put some thought into the state of eCommerce in general, and how we see Isotope fitting in during that time.

Isotope at the TYPOlight User Meeting 2010 and version 0.1.0 stable
Andreas Schempp of will be demonstrating Isotope at this year's TYPOlight User Meeting. It's been an exciting past few months for the Isotope project (so much so that it's taken us this long to update the blog!) and there's going to be a lot to talk about. The project itself has really come into its own with a team effort from Andreas, Fred Bliss of Intelligent Spark, and Winans Creative, as well as our 100s of Beta Testers who have contributed to the project.
